 | | Garda is a beautiful medieval town with a picturesque town centre that gave its name in the 12th century to the lake, up to then called 'Benaco'. |

The town has lovely old houses, archways, narrow alleys and small squares. Fishing remains an important aspect of the town, and the local fishing cooperative is still active. In July during the full moon the "Sardallata al Pal del Ṿ'" (Sardine Festival), is held. Several entertaining events are also held during the year. Carnival, with its parade of allegorical floats and revelers in historical costumes, is in February. In August the "Palio delle Contrade" a rowing race with fireworks take place. |
