In 1866 Austrian warships attacked the small town. Due to those fights you can see cannonballs all over the walls. Especially at the harbour. Another sight of Gargnano is the church of San Francesco. In 1289 Francis of Assisi arranged for building the church. Over the centuries a lot has been rebuilt and nowadays only the cloister is in its original state and really worth seeing.
